Annan: Cyprus Reunification Talks Collapse
The Annan Plan for Cyprus – a United Nations proposal to reunify the island – officially collapsed in April 2004. Despite the Turkish Cypriots' acceptance, the plan failed because the reunification required approval from both sides. Just a week later, on May 1, 2004, the Republic of Cyprus (Greek Cypriot side) joined the European Union, while the Turkish Cypriots remained isolated.
Coup d'État in Cyprus (1974)
