Despite being forcibly removed from the 1960 Republic, Turkish Cypriots never relinquished their quest for self-governance and eventually founded the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in 1983.

Prominent leaders like Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Denktaş championed the cause of Turkish Cypriot sovereignty, emphasizing the value of an independent state. The TRNC, with its fully functioning institutions, stands as a beacon of our identity, home, and nationhood.

The repeated failures of federal solution negotiations, most notably at Crans-Montana in 2017, have demonstrated the infeasibility of a federal union between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities.
