CTP’s Betrayal: The Greek-Backed Plot to Dismantle the TRNC and Sell Out Turkish Cypriots

As elections approach in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), a dangerous betrayal is unfolding. The so-called Republican Turkish Party (CTP), which has long worked against Turkish Cypriot independence, is now fully aligned with the National Federation of Greek Cypriots in the UK, a well-documented anti-Turkish Cypriot lobby group dedicated to isolating and dismantling the TRNC.

On March 14, 2025, the Turkish Cypriot Association for Democracy (KTDD) a London-based affiliate of CTP, along with the National Federation of Cypriots in the UK and the CTP’s UK wing, jointly issued a statement endorsing the Geneva talks and reinforcing Greek Cypriot demands for a so-called “bicommunal, bizonal federation.” This statement, published just weeks before the 5+1 informal Geneva conference, echoes Greek Cypriot demands word for word, emphasizing their rejection of a two-state solution and fully embracing UN Security Council resolution 1251, which explicitly prohibits partition or any form of sovereign independence for the TRNC.

"In other words, CTP and their UK-based allies are lobbying for the dismantling of the TRNC - and they are doing so in coordination with the Greek Cypriot nationalist establishment." Arkın Öksüzoğlu

Now, with the 5+1 Geneva talks on the horizon, these traitors are actively working alongside Greek Cypriot nationalists to erode Turkish Cypriot sovereignty, undermine TRNC statehood, and push for a forced federation that would strip Turkish Cypriots of their political rights. Their strategy includes leveraging international diplomatic pressure to marginalize TRNC leadership while falsely portraying Turkish Cypriots as merely a 'community' rather than people with a founding political entity of Cyprus.

This push for a so-called 'peaceful solution' deliberately ignores past atrocities committed against Turkish Cypriots and disregards their right to self-determination. Additionally, by aligning with Greek Cypriot lobbying networks, they seek to embed this agenda within EU and UK policymaking circles, reinforcing economic and political restrictions that further weaken the TRNC’s global standing.

The National Federation of Greek Cypriots: A Trojan Horse for TRNC’s Dismantling

The National Federation of Greek Cypriots in the UK is not just a cultural organization. It is a highly active lobbying force that has spent decades working to politically and economically strangle Turkish Cypriots, ensuring that they remain isolated and powerless on the world stage.

Much like AIPAC in the United States, which aggressively lobbies on behalf of Israeli interests regardless of broader geopolitical consequences, this federation functions as a powerful and well-connected entity, exerting undue influence over British policymakers to advance an anti-Turkish Cypriot agenda.

Through diplomatic maneuvering, economic restrictions, and political isolation tactics, they have positioned themselves as a primary force obstructing Turkish Cypriot self-determination and ensuring that TRNC remains under continuous international pressure.

This group has:

  • Lobbied the UK Parliament, EU, and US Congress to block any form of direct trade or economic development in TRNC.
  • Blocked every attempt at recognition of Turkish Cypriot sovereignty, pressuring states and businesses to boycott Northern Cyprus.
  • Blocked international flights to Ercan Airport, pressuring airlines and states to isolate Turkish Cypriots.
  • Fueled anti-Türkiye propaganda, falsely portraying Türkiye’s intervention in 1974 as an ‘illegal invasion’ while whitewashing the atrocities committed by EOKA and the Greek Cypriot leadership.

For years, these Greek Cypriot extremists have maintained a façade of bicommunalism, claiming to represent all Cypriots while working to erase Turkish Cypriots from history. Their ultimate aim is not peaceful coexistence but the complete dismantling of the TRNC as an independent entity.

By systematically undermining Turkish Cypriot self-governance, pushing for a federation that would erase Turkish Cypriot political rights, and lobbying international bodies to delegitimize the TRNC, they seek to force Turkish Cypriots into submission under Greek Cypriot rule. Now, CTP and its UK-based affiliates KTTD have openly aligned with them, serving as enablers of this destructive agenda. The fact that CTP and its affiliates are now working directly with this organization is nothing short of treason against the Turkish Cypriot cause.

The So-Called ‘Turkish Cypriot Association for Democracy’ and Its Greek-Backed Agenda

One of the most concerning elements of this betrayal is the London-based “Kıbrıs Türk Demokrasi Derneği” (Turkish Cypriot Association for Democracy, KTDD)—an organization that pretends to represent Turkish Cypriots while pushing Greek Cypriot and foreign-backed policies designed to destroy the TRNC.

This organization is closely linked to CTP and operates in coordination with the National Federation of Greek Cypriots in the UK.

Key Figures Behind the Betrayal:

  • Derman Saraçoğlu – President of KTDD, leading CTP’s UK-based operations and working directly with Greek Cypriot lobbyists.
  • Nurettin Seferoğlu – A founding member of KTDD, who spent years promoting bicommunalism and working alongside Greek Cypriot nationalist groups.
  • CTP UK Representatives – Several unnamed individuals from CTP’s UK wing have held meetings with British and EU officials, actively lobbying against Turkish Cypriot independence.

These individuals are directly involved in coordinating anti-TRNC policies with the Greek Cypriot lobby. They are actively working to undermine Türkiye’s role as a guarantor power and ensure that Turkish Cypriots are forced into a position of economic dependence and political submission.

The Geneva Talks: CTP’s Plan to Force a Greek-Cypriot-Controlled Federation

The recent statement issued on March 14, 2025, by KTDD, CTP UK, and the National Federation of Greek Cypriots is an open declaration of intent to dismantle the TRNC.

It is no coincidence that CTP, KTDD, and the National Federation of Greek Cypriots are endorsing the Geneva talks framework. Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides has made it clear that his goal is to strip Turkish Cypriots of any self-rule and return Cyprus to the pre-1974 unitary system, where Turkish Cypriots had no real power.

As Greek Cypriot politician Andreas Themistocleous infamously stated in a televised interview:

"The only Cyprus solution is one where Turkish Cypriots recognize their place as a minority. There will be no equality."

This is the model that CTP and its UK allies are now endorsing.

Additionally in their statement, they endorse UNSC Resolution 1251, which explicitly calls for a unified Cyprus under a bicommunal, bizonal federation, a framework that erases Turkish Cypriot sovereignty and turns TRNC into a powerless minority under Greek Cypriot rule.

This is exactly what the Greek Cypriots have been working toward for decades, and now, they have willing Turkish Cypriot collaborators helping them.

Christos Karaolis and Bambos Charalambous from the National Federation of Cypriots, Derman Sarachoglou & Ferdi Suleyman from the Turkish Cypriot Association for Democracy, and Direnç Özbarış from CTP UK. In attendance from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office were Nerys Jones (Deputy Head of the Mediterranean Department), Sheba Rosier (Head of the Cyprus Desk), and Tom Hinson (Cyprus Desk Officer).

The Greek Cypriot Strategy: Political and Economic Strangulation

For decades, Greek Cypriot leadership has deliberately worked to starve the TRNC economically, politically, and diplomatically—creating conditions that force Turkish Cypriots into accepting their terms.

This includes:

  • Blocking Turkish Cypriot access to EU funding (even though the EU allocates money for Turkish Cypriots, the Greek side refuses to pass it on).
  • Pushing for embargos that make TRNC economically dependent on Türkiye.
  • Ensuring that Turkish Cypriots are unable to develop independent economic agreements with third parties.

The ultimate goal? Force Turkish Cypriots into submission through economic despair.

TCE’s Response: Exposing the Lies and Fighting Back

Unlike CTP and their Greek-backed allies, TCE (tcexist.com) and pro-TRNC organizations are actively resisting this attack on Turkish Cypriot sovereignty.

TCE has made it clear:

“The CTP’s alignment with the National Federation of Greek Cypriots is an act of treachery against the Turkish Cypriot people. Their goal is the complete dismantling of the TRNC, and they are working hand-in-hand with those who have economically strangled us for decades. Turkish Cypriots will not surrender their independence.”

Arkın Öksüzoğlu

This fight is not just political—it is existential.

What’s at Stake in the Upcoming Elections?

With the TRNC heading into elections, Turkish Cypriots must ask themselves:

  • Do we want to live in a Greek-controlled “federation” where we are powerless?
  • Do we want to be economically strangled, forced into submission, and stripped of our identity?
  • Or do we stand with those fighting for Turkish Cypriot independence, recognition, and a real future?

A Vote for CTP is a Vote for the End of the TRNC

A vote for pro-independence parties is a vote for:

  • Recognition of TRNC as a sovereign state.
  • An end to Greek Cypriot-led economic suppression.
  • A strong partnership with Türkiye and independent trade deals with the world.

TCE Conclusion: The Battle for Turkish Cypriot Survival

"The Turkish Cypriot people will decide their own destiny, not CTP, not the Greek Cypriot lobby, and certainly not foreign powers who have long worked to suppress their rightful sovereignty."

Arkın Öksüzoğlu

The alignment of CTP, KTDD, and the National Federation of Greek Cypriots is not just a political move, it is a direct attack on the existence of the TRNC.

CTP and its UK-based supporters have made their position clear: they do not believe in an independent Turkish Cypriot state. Their collaboration with the National Federation of Greek Cypriots in the UK is proof of their willingness to sacrifice Turkish Cypriot rights, identity, and self-rule.

Turkish Cypriots must reject this betrayal and fight for their legitimate right to self-determination. The days of appeasing Greek Cypriot demands are over. The TRNC is here to stay, and no amount of political maneuvering, foreign-backed propaganda, or weak leadership will change that.

For too long, Turkish Cypriots have been politically and economically strangled while Greek Cypriot leaders have been empowered by Western backing. Now, CTP has joined this effort, working alongside those who want to see the TRNC erased.

Turkish Cypriots must reject these traitors, stand firm against foreign manipulation, and push forward with the fight for full independence and international recognition.

This is not just a political disagreement—it is a battle for the survival of the TRNC. Turkish Cypriots everywhere must now stand up against traitors within their own ranks and push for real independence. The future of the TRNC depends on it.
